Lewis DeSoto on Emily Carr

DeSoto, LewisLewis DeSoto is both a writer and artist whose paintings have been exhibited across Canada. A former editor of the Literary Review of Canada, DeSoto has published essays and short stories in numerous journals, and his novel A Blade of Grass was nominated for the Man Booker Prize.

In this clip, DeSoto talks about his biography of Emily Carr, which was part of the Extraordinary Canadians series, and how her images have defined her legacy.

DeSoto will be participating in the 35th edition of the International Festival of Authors as host and moderator on a round table discussion about the significance of setting in a story.
