Toronto International Festival of Authors produces and presents several series of literary programmes every year. We welcome programming considerations, and invite you to submit your proposal online to the appropriate programme stream below.

Toronto International Festival of Authors (The Festival), IFOA Ontario, and IFOA Weekly

Since its inception in 1974, the Toronto International Festival of Authors has welcomed more than 9,000 authors from over 100 countries, including 22 Nobel Laureates and countless other award winners. The 39th Festival will run between October 18 - 28, 2018, presenting the finest contemporary Canadian and international novelists, poets, playwrights, short story writers and biographers. The Festival provides writers with an internationally-recognized forum in which to present their work.

IFOA Ontario (previously "Lit On Tour") facilitates author events in various communities outside of Toronto every fall.

IFOA Weekly presents author events in Toronto every year between September to June.

Our programming team, headed by our Director Geoffrey E. Taylor, reviews materials for all programming.

Toronto Lit Up

The Toronto Arts Council (TAC) and Toronto International Festival of Authors have partnered on Toronto Lit Up, a 3-year initiative designed to spotlight Toronto writers and empower local artists with career-building opportunities. The Festival will host book release parties throughout the year at Harbourfront Centre and at other venues across the city.

The goal of this program is to provide Toronto authors* with significant presentation opportunities that will allow the public to learn about and access more of the work of its local writing community.

Toronto Lit Up is led by a Committee, made up of Dionne Brand (University of Guelph and chair of the committee), Alison Jones (Quill and Quire), Hazel Millar (Literary Press Group & Book*hug), Christine Saratsiotis (Toronto International Festival of Authors), and Geoffrey Taylor (Toronto International Festival of Authors), who will review and adjudicate all selections.

*Eligibility for Toronto Lit Up:

  • Author must be a resident of Toronto, living in the city for at least 8 months of the year;
  • Author must have been a Toronto resident for at least 1 year prior to the launch date;
  • The book publication date must be within 3 months of the anticipated launch date, e.g November pub date for a January launch date.

Any further questions in regards to Toronto Lit Up can be addressed to torontolitup@ifoa.org.
