IFOA@Fort York: Magna Carta and the Modern World

Thursday, October 22, 2015 - 8:00 PM
Fort York
Author appearance, Keynote, Special Event: IFOA
Participants: Carolyn Harris

In Tudor times, Magna Carta became an obscure legal document. It emerged from obscurity with the legal writing of Sir Edward Coke (1552–1634), who argued that the document was the foundation of all English liberties. Coke’s interpretation of Magna Carta informed the American and French Revolutions and the development of modern Canada.

Join Toronto-based historian Dr. Carolyn Harris, author of Magna Carta and Its Gifts to Canada: Democracy, Law, and Human Rights, for a discussion of this very significant charter.
