Poets Oana Avasilichioaei, John Burnside, Claire Caldwell, Milan Jesih and Andy McGuire read from their latest works in the Pub Hub. Author Evan Munday acts as MC.

  • Oana Avasilichioaei

    Oana Avasilichioaei is a poet, translator and editor whose poetry collections include We, Beasts (winner of the Quebec Writers’ Federation’s A.M. Klein Prize for Poetry) and feria: a poempark. In recent years, Avasilichioaei has also been mapping poetry into performative sound work (oanalab.com) and translates poetry and prose from Romanian and French. She has also edited several magazine issues, including Poetry in Translation. Avasilichioaei presents the collection Limbinal, which intersects prose fragments with incantatory dialogues, poetic footnotes with photographic phrases and rebellious translations with liquid transpositions.

  • John Burnside

    John Burnside is a poet, fiction writer and memoirist. His most recent poetry collections are All One Breath and Black Cat Bone, which won both the Forward and T.S. Eliot Prize. His collection of short stories, Something Like Happy, won both the Edge Hill Prize and the Saltire Society Scottish Book of the Year. He is the author of the novels A Summer of Drowning and The Dumb House, and teaches at the University of St Andrews. Burnside presents The Glister, a profound, page-turning novel about innocence, evil, morality and the dark corners of the human psyche.

  • Caldwell, Claire (c) Stephen Spencer Davis

    Claire Caldwell

    Claire Caldwell is a poet and editor living in Toronto where she edits romance and action-adventure novels at Harlequin. She was the 2013 winner of the Malahat Review’s Long Poem Prize and her work has appeared in publications such as Maisonneuve and PRISM international. She holds an MFA in creative writing from the University of Guelph and a BA in English and French Literature from McGill. Caldwell presents her debut collection of poetry, Invasive Species, which contrasts the calamities of climate change and the dangers of the natural world with the intimacies of everyday life.

  • Jesih, Milan

    Milan Jesih

    Milan Jesih was born in 1950 in Ljublijana. His books Soneti (Sonnets, 1989), Soneti drugi (Sonnets the Second, 1993) and Jambi (lambics, 2000) represent the peak of Slovenian postmodernism in poetry. In addition to his poetry, he has written plays and produced numerous translations into Slovenian from English and Russian. Jesih presents Selected Poems, his first selection to be translated into English. Beginning with humour and autobiography, the poems gradually withdraw into a universe of fragments, quotations, dreams and doubt.

  • Evan Munday

    Evan Munday

    Evan Munday is the author and illustrator of the acclaimed book series for young readers The Dead Kid Detective Agency. Both The Dead Kid Detective Agency and its sequel, Dial M for Morna, were nominated for the Silver Birch® Fiction Award. The third book, Loyalist to a Fault, will be in bookstores this September. He has also worked as a book publicist, freelance illustrator, ebook designer and soda jerk. He lives in Toronto.
