send is a collection of poetry that explores our many modes of communication from smoke signals to texting. The work uses lyric meditations, personal narratives and experimental poetry to shed light on the ways in which we try to express ourselves.

Fleeing Stalin’s advance into Lithuania, shaken by communism and war, four refugees end up in Toronto in 1949.  Trying to resume normal lives, longing for their country’s freedom, they wait to go home.

In post WWII Italy, Passero, the son of a winemaker killed by the Nazis, commits an impetuous act. He kidnaps a young orphaned girl and offers her up in exchange for his own freedom. His actions create a lifelong connection with her culminating in an adulterous affair in Toronto in the 1960s, while he is building a life with another woman.

Toronto Lit Up is a three year initiative, spearheaded by the Toronto Arts Council and IFOA, designed to spotlight Toronto’s writers and empower local artists with career-building opportunities.
