Book Club

January 15: People’s Choice!
Book Discussed: As a group, we will pick our “holiday” read.

Meet other book lovers, discuss fascinating topics and expand your world. Our monthly book club features guest speakers and books handpicked from IFOA programming. Meetings are informal and relaxed – even if you don’t have time to finish the book, come for the chat! We will have exciting guest speakers and book giveaways.

Book club members meet every third Wednesday of the month from 6-7:15pm in the Tea Room of York Quay Centre (235 Queens Quay West). Ask security to buzz you up to the 3rd floor, and when you get off the elevator, turn left. There will be coffee!

Registrants will receive a one-year supporter subscription to the IFOA weekly series, or an additional one-year extension to an existing subscription. You will also receive one free ticket to any IFOA event in which a Book Club author appears.

Hosted by Jen Tindall, artistic associate at IFOA. Jen helps to program the IFOA weekly series as well as the annual International Festival of Authors in the fall (October 24 – November 3, 2013).

Please call 416-973-4760 or email info@ifoa.org with any questions.

Participants:

You’ve got a great book – now how do you spread the word, get publicity and build your readership?

In this intensive one-day workshop, novelist Brian Francis and Random House of Canada publicity manager Adria Iwasutiak discuss the tools that will help you rise above the pack. Perfect for emerging and self-published writers.

Topics will include:

  • Building a great author website
  • Navigating social media
  • Generating buzz
  • Creating dynamic author press kits
  • Best ways to approach media
  • Increasing your likeability
  • What to do if your book isn’t generating media
  • The seven questions to never ask a publicist (cue the Jaws theme)
  • And more!

What last year’s registrants had to say:

“Thanks so much to you both for your insights!”

“They know their stuff.”

“Thanks for such an educational and entertaining workshop.”
